Tom's Ratings system for book reviews
I tend to be easy about reading novels - if they hold my attention I like
them. Because of this, I have one rating for how "good" the book is, and
another for how much I liked it. If this sounds confusing, ask yourself
if you've ever been highly entertained by a trashy movie (I have). I give
books a letter and a number. The letter is the rating for how good a
book is, and the number for how much I liked it.
- A: This book was a high quality work.
- B: This book had some quality work and some trashiness.
- C: A really trashy novel.
- The very best in entertainment.
- This book was entertaing, verging on very entertaining, but there was
something about it that didn't sit well with me.
- This book was ok. I didn't regret reading it, but I won't read it again.
- This book didn't do much for me.
- This book really sucked. In some cases I couldn't even force myself
to finish this book.
I have to admit that I give a pretty easy "A1". On the other hand, so far I've
mostly just been writing reviews for the books I really like -- that really
exaggerates the effect.
