This is an exceptional story of the first trip to Mars. It is a realistic look at a near future mission, given the current political and economic condition of Earth.
It's not nearly the epic that Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars is. I have to make this comparison because I read them close together. However it is still a good book, and I didn't let my love for that book color my opinion for this book.
